WHAT YOU NEED | Ingredients & Supplies
2 TBSP pure raw cocoa butter
1 TBSP organic coconut oil
2 TBSP of healing calendula herb infused olive oil (see additional recipe below)
1/2 tsp pure beeswax
For the Calendula Herb Infused Olive Oil
1/2 cup pure olive oil
1/4 cup calendula herb
Additionally, you'll need a double-boiler, or you can just as easily use a glass jar (such as a mason jar) and a saucepan or slow cooker containing water to cover half the jar.
Here is a simple how-to video I've put together for you!
STEP 01 | Make Your Calendula Herb Infused Olive Oil
You'll want to make your healing calendula herb infused oil first. To do this, you can use a double-boiler, or you can use another method I'll describe below.
If not using a double-boiler, add your ingredients, roughly 1/4 cup of calendula herb to a glass jar, such as a mason jar. Then, add olive oil to the jar until the herbs are well-covered. It may come to about 1/2 cup of olive oil.
Place this jar in a saucepan or slow-cooker that has been filled half-way with water. You're going to set the temperature to low. If using a saucepan, allow at least two hours for the herbs to infuse the oil. If using a slow-cooker, consider infusing the herbs for 24hrs and up to 48hrs for the best infusion.
Once the oil has been infused with the herbs, you'll strain the herbs from the oil using a fine strainer or cheesecloth. Measure out two tablespoons of the oil and put in a separate container. To that, add about 10 drops of essential oil. Stir well.
STEP 02 | Melt & Mix Ingredients Together
Using a double-boiler or the jar, water, and saucepan method, melt and mix your cocoa butter, coconut oil, beeswax, and healing calendula herb infused olive oil together.
Once all of the ingredients are completely melted and mixed, pour mixture into a glass container and cover with a lid. Allow to cool (you may even place the jar in a refrigerator to speed up the process).
Your balm is ready to use! Note: This balm is meant to after you nurse and not before.
